Another step… closer to launch! (report#38, 18/01/2016)

After a good day of rest, today we resumed our activities in the MIK.
Immediately after arrival the whole team had a safety briefing given by Khrunichev and the Space Forces for the hazardous fuelling operations which are starting later this week.
In preparation of the Satellite fuelling, the Propulsion team is now installing all the necessary equipment in the cleanroom and EGSE room. As part of their tasks, they have already transferred the hydrazine fuel drums from their container located in the general hall, into the cleanroom. This transfer is required a few days before the actual fuelling operations will start, in order to give the hydrazine sufficient time to stabilise from the move and adapt to the temperature conditions in the cleanroom.

During this hazardous operation, all the people who were not strictly required had to be evacuated from the building.

In the afternoon, we had a planning coordination meeting with Khrunichev to further prepare all the fuelling activities of the next days.
In parallel we performed the Launch and Network countdown rehearsal with ESOC. For the whole day we have been operating the Satellite using the same procedures and the same set-up as for the launch day, interacting on the voice loop with ESOC and providing live telemetry. IMG_0821COPY

Despite a slight delay in the start of our activities – due to the low humidity levels in the EGSE room – this test was very successfully concluded and proved very useful in order to finalise our preparations.
